Memorial Weekend - 2007

Although it was just Mark & I there, it was still pretty good. Weather was great, we got "old reliable" on Low Water Bridge Road, and I enjoyed my last camping trip before the arrival of Caroline in October. The water was WAY down, but we got a canoe trip in on Saturday. We had to drive to the state line and put in at the bridge over the North Fork. Cold beer and other accoutrements made it for a nice few hours. We used a generator for the first time, which yielded several movies at dinnertime and no worries about battery life for the radio. Those mangy dogs were there from our trip in October (Houston and Marc should remember them), one of them dropped a tick on my leg.

Pictured above is a rattlesnake we encountered while taking the canoe out. We had to use a paddle and bamboo pole to keep it out of a portajohn, it was one pissed off 4 foot long snake - rattling its tail for 5 minutes until we chased it up an embankment and away from the footpath.

The parking rate this year was $5 per car (up from, what, $.75 a few years ago?). According to Mark,
as he was getting ready to leave on Monday he met one of the managers of the campground, who works for a private company that just bought it from the Forest Service. He said they were going to make a lot of needed improvements there. Thus, perhaps, the reason for $5 per night. But hey, it's got a picnic table and fire ring.

Hope the rest of you bums can make it next time - you know who you are.

Mark's Wedding Pictures

Has it been that long? Just a couple years, dang. Anyhow, I ran across these while combing through a bunch of my pictures on the ol' hard drive.
